The short version
ecook.wiki is a small, independent recipe website. We try to collect as little information about you as possible. We don't sell or share your data. We use a couple of widely-used third-party tools (Google Analytics, eventually Google AdSense, Buttondown for newsletter), each described below.
Information we collect directly
Saved recipes. When you tap the heart on a recipe, we store the recipe slug in your browser's localStorage. This data stays on your device and is never sent to us.
Cookie preferences. When you dismiss the cookie banner, we store a single flag (ok) in localStorage so we don't show the banner again.
Email address (newsletter). If you subscribe to Shi'an's Notebook, your email address is sent to our newsletter provider, Buttondown. We use it only to send you the newsletter you signed up for. Unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email.
Information collected by third parties
Google Analytics (planned). We may use Google Analytics 4 to understand how visitors use the site (which pages are read, where visitors come from). Google Analytics uses cookies and may collect IP addresses. You can opt out using the Google Analytics opt-out.
Google AdSense (planned). Once approved, we will display ads from Google AdSense. AdSense and its partners may use cookies to show you relevant ads. You can learn more and opt out at Google's ad policy page. We will update this policy when AdSense goes live.
Buttondown. Our newsletter provider stores your email and basic newsletter engagement data. Their privacy policy: buttondown.email/privacy.
Giscus / GitHub (planned). Comments will be powered by GitHub Discussions via Giscus. Posting a comment requires a GitHub account and sends data per GitHub's privacy policy.
Fonts and image CDNs. Page loads fetch Google Fonts and (occasionally) third-party image CDNs. These providers may log IP addresses, per their own privacy policies.
Cookies
We use the smallest set of cookies we can. The cookie banner at the bottom of the site asks for your acknowledgement once. After that the banner is hidden via a single browser-storage flag.
Children
ecook.wiki is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has provided information through our site, email [email protected] and we will delete it.
Your rights (GDPR, CCPA)
If you are in the EU/UK or California, you have the right to: know what we store, request that we delete it, and ask us to stop processing it. Email [email protected] and we will respond within 30 days.
Changes
If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top and (for material changes) post a notice on the homepage.
